Business Week: Houston Economy 9th Strongest in Nation
October 23, 2009
Business Week has ranked the economy of the Houston metro as the 9th strongest metro economy in the U.S. Stable home prices were a top factor contributing to Houston’s resilience.
The top 100 metros were ranked based on job growth, unemployment, gross metropolitan product and home prices. The strongest metros all had one thing in common: relatively stable housing markets, with no big boom or bust.
All four major Texas metros: San Antonio, Austin, Dallas-Ft. Worth and Houston made the Top Ten. The article states, “Texas is unlikely to face a prolonged downturn… The state’s affordable cost of living makes it attractive to new residents and corporations, the largest of which tend to be based near Houston and Dallas.”
